Dartmouth Foods

Client:Dartmouth Foods
Flow Rate:1.5m³/h

Background

Dartmouth Foods are a producer and supplier of smoked meats to the UK market. Their two factories are surrounded by some of the UK’s most beautiful scenery and Dartmouth Foods prides itself on its environmental credentials.

As a result of their daily activities the fats, oils and greases (FOG) produced were putting a heavy strain on the sewerage infrastructure near the company’s site.

South West Water asked them to install a system that could aid this FOG removal and therefore reduce the strain put on the local sewerage.

The Overall Objective

Dartmouth Foods required a suitable treatment system that could reduce the level of FOG, TSS (Total Suspended Solids) and COD being discharged in to the local sewers and therefore enable them to comply with the discharge consent set out by South West Water.

Solution

Siltbuster Process Solutions proposed a D5 DAF unit to treat 1.5m³/h, to neutralise the effluent before removing the FOG, TSS and COD. As a result of the units success, Dartmouth Foods bought the unit 2 months later.

Phil Maishman of Dartmouth Foods concludes: “Six months on we are incredibly pleased. The level at which the Siltbuster system is performing means we’re now easily maintaining consent compliance, which is of course critical. As importantly for us, and our environmental reputation, we’re also keen to put the waste produced to good use, creating energy which makes our production even more cost efficient and green.”
