Suez Dissolved Metals Removal

Client:Suez
Location:Belgium

Background

Suez’ client, NLMK required additional capacity to treat pickling liquor at its production site in La Louviere, Belgium, which produces various grades of hot and cold rolled steel coils.

NLMK Group is a leading international manufacturer of high-quality steel products with a vertically integrated business model. Mining and steelmaking are concentrated in cost-efficient regions; finished products are manufactured close to our main costumers in Russia, North America, and the EU.

The Overall Objective

Suez has used Siltbuster products to support its operations on many applications, and in this case, required the additional treatment capacity to be delivered and installed within a very short timeframe in order to prevent delays to NLMK’s production development project. A small area of land was available adjacent to the existing plant, and the plant needed to be capable of treating up to 30m3/hr of iron rich pH1 effluent.

Solution

Siltbuster’s experience of treating metaliferous effluent enabled the treatment process requirements to be quickly established and the ability to establish a complete treatment process using Siltbuster’s modular equipment from the fleet made for quick mobilisation.

The system comprised of a mixed reaction tank, two lamella clarifiers a mixed sludge holding tank and plate press along with all the required ancillary pumping equipment and chemical dosing systems.

SPS and Suez engineers worked together to commission the system and to pair up with Suez’ own sand filtration equipment in order to achieve a high quality discharge.
