Gate Gourmet Catering Contractor

Client:Gate Gourmet
Flow Rate:15m³/hr

Background

Gate Gourmet is the leading independent provider of airline catering and provisioning services. At Heathrow they provide meals to British Airways for their first class and business class services.

The Overall Objective

Gate Gourmet requires reuse of its equipment such as cutlery etc therefore leading to the production of large quantities of FOG (fats, oils and greases) in water discharged to sewer. Before discharge it has been traditionally stored in a sludge tank which required removal from site at a cost.

A suitable solution was required to maintain consent compliance, plus potential Mogden charges faced if water discharged without suitable treatment.

Solution

Waste water required treatment to be within the consent limits set out. Consent was to be below 1000 TSS and below 2000 COD. Since being on site, the Siltbuster equipment has maintained consent compliance, treating peaks of 1500mg/L TSS and 4500mg/l COD.

The Siltbuster system was able to achieve an average TSS removal rate of over 87% and COD of 70% meaning it was far exceeding the discharge consent set out originally, allowing Gate Gourmet to safely discharge to the sewer and avoid fines.

SPS provided a 3” pipe flocculator plus a 3 stages chemical dosing skid plus a D25 unit. They also installed all of the pump work and pipe work for the system.
